Letter to the Romans Chapter 2: NO JUDGING, NO EXCUSES!
No Excuses for Judging! Ouch — how often have I heard myself saying… I’m not judging I’m just concerned about this or that person… and I tell you so you can pray! Right! But honestly, how often do I pass judgement — especially not having all the facts or truth about a person… NAMELY what is …

Letter to the Romans – Chapter 1 The Power of the Gospel
Today is Day 1 and Chapter 1 in Romans! What a way to start Advent – a time to prepare for the Lord! St. Paul when he speaks to the Romans is speaking to all of us! I like to think we all as Catholics have a little Roma in our hearts! For Rome is …

James 5:19-20 Conversion of Sinners
Day 30! Congratulations on completing the book of James!
And what a finale!
The Conversion of Sinners! This is what Lent is all about!
Our conversion and the conversion of everyone we know and in the whole world!
This is quite a bold promise that James makes at the end here!
“Whoever among you should stray from the truth and someone bring him back…
he should know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his
soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.”

James 5:16-18 Confession and Intercession
Day 29 and here we have it folks! The verse that answers the question…
“Why do I have to confess my sins to a person?” or “Why can’t I just confess to God in private?”
Well sure you can confess your sins in private… and we all should!

James 5:13-15 The Power of Prayer!
Day 28 and here we find the most beloved Sacrament… Anointing of the Sick right here in scripture!
Here is the perfect direction James gives us…
if you are suffering pray!
if you are in good spirits praise!
if anyone is sick…
Here it is…
Summon the presbyters of the church… and they should
pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord,
and the prayer of faith will save the sick person…
and the Lord will raise him up.

James 5:12 Do Not Swear!
Day 27 and today we have one action packed verse to contemplate…
“But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath,
but let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No”,
that you may not incur condemnation.”
Well God’s word is always right on time!

How quick our tongue can be.. complaining usually seems harmless at first…
complaining is usually rationalized as…

James 5:7-8 Patience and Oaths
Why do we need to learn and practice patience?
Because we need this fruit of the Holy Spirit to be able to be patient until the coming of the Lord.
So speaking of fruit, he gives us the example of the farmer… and how he waits for the precious fruit of the earth… being patient with it until it receives the early and late rains…

James 5:1-6 Warning to the Rich
God truly blesses people with wealth… but it cannot be that we end up loving and relying on this wealth to keep us safe and secure.
So storing and withholding wealth instead of doing good and sharing with those in need cannot be God’s plan.
He speaks of those who live in luxury and pleasure on this earth… who FATTEN THEIR HEARTS for the day of slaughter…
“You have condemned: you have murdered the righteous one: he offers you no resistance”
I am reminded here of the scripture where Jesus says… “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers… you do for me”
